Denise here, again.
I just wanted to share some funny things I have learned in my first few days...
a. When someone tells you to 'meet them at Rogers pub'; that is probably not the name of the place, rather, it is probably the owner.
b. When someone is giving you directions (in English, even!), telling you that it is a white building does not help in this village. (If that does not make sense to you, look at some pictures of our village!)
c. 10 am does not mean 10 am; it means mid-morning sometime.
d. lunch break at a store may (or may not be) 2-3 hours long. (Decidedly UNhelpful when trying to get out to buy a husband a birthday gift)
e. I have been able to get around by repeating the phrase "Espana un poco. English, por favor." (Spanish, little. English, please). This and my adorable Sal waving at every passerby saying "OYA" (Hola) has been really helpful!
: )
I laughed when I read about Sal! He was very eager to learn Spanish when he was with us. It's great to see that he is putting his limited vocabulary to use! :)
ReplyDeleteI love reading about what you are learning. Living somewhere is quite different than just visiting with a tourist group!
It is snowing like crazy here today. Our first BIG blizzard. I know if you were here you would be all bundled and out playing in it! I'll try to save some for when you return. <3
Yes, much snow!
ReplyDeleteFun and funny stories!
Love you.

I ran into the same problem with stores in Switzerland last week! It's nice that they can take a break, but it certainly does make afternoon shopping tricky.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear you're managing to get around; I'm glad Sal is such a big help ;)
lots of love!
